Pronunciation & Spelling
No common word rhymes exactly with dictum /ˈdɪktəm/. Autumn /ˈɔːtəm/, bottom /ˈbɒtəm/, and system /ˈsɪstəm/ share the final unstressed /təm/ syllable. Diction /ˈdɪkʃən/ and dictate /dɪkˈteɪt/ share the spelling dict- and initial /dɪk/, but their endings differ. Victim /ˈvɪktɪm/ looks like a possible rhyme of dictum but ends in /ɪm/, not /əm/, so it does not rhyme. Be careful not to pronounce the -um in dictum as in autumn.
