Context & Register
语域:neutral 常见场景:academic writing、published books、formal reports “footnote”作“脚注”讲时,多用于学术论文、书籍和正式文件的书面语境,通常为中性语体,因此这里更偏向中性。日常口语中较少直接使用这个含义,多是在谈论文本或阅读时出现。
Pronunciation & Spelling
Final sound: note, vote, quote, and remote all share the spelling '-ote' and the /oʊt/ sound, exactly like the '-note' part of footnote. Boat and coat have the same final /oʊt/ sound but use the spelling '-oat'. Beware lookalikes: 'food' (/fuːd/) and 'boot' (/buːt/) have a different vowel from 'foot' (/fʊt/), the first syllable of footnote; also don't confuse 'note' (/noʊt/) with 'not' (/nɑːt/).
