常见错误Common mistakes
易错句子The dinner for the visiting president was state.正确表达The dinner for the visiting president was a state dinner.
state 作形容词只表示类别,只能放在名词前作定语,不能放在系动词后作表语;汉语「国事的」可以单独作谓语,但英语这类定语专用形容词必须补出它修饰的名词,说成 a state dinner 才成立。
易错句子The president will make a national visit to France next week.正确表达The president will make a state visit to France next week.
表示国家元首应对方元首邀请进行的正式外交访问,英语的固定说法是 state visit;national 只表示「全国的、民族的」,没有「国事的、国家层面的」这层含义,所以不能用来替换 state。
易错句子China has reformed many state owned enterprises.正确表达China has reformed many state-owned enterprises.
state-owned 是名词 state 加过去分词 owned 构成的复合形容词,放在名词前作定语时要用连字符连成一个整体,否则会被读成两个独立的词,不符合英语复合形容词的书写规则。
