Surgery and slavery share the final spelling -ery and the unstressed /əri/ sound, but their stressed vowels (/ɜː/ and /eɪ/) differ, so they are not true rhymes. Lookalikes: every is compressed to /ˈɛvri/, and snooty, though semantically close, is pronounced /ˈsnuːti/.
