Register: formal. Contexts: academic writing, logical reasoning. Note: 作动词时通常用于正式语境,常见于学术论文和逻辑论证中。
Pronunciation & Spelling
None of these words rhyme with 'premise' (/prɛmɪs/), because its stressed vowel is /ɛ/ and the others have different stressed vowels. However, 'promise', 'compromise', 'surmise', and 'demise' share the spelling chunk '-mise' but are pronounced with /aɪ/ (except 'promise' with /ɒ/ or /ɑ/). 'Revise' ends in '-vise' with /aɪ/. 'Miss' shares the final /ɪs/ sound but has a different spelling and stress pattern.
