All six words share the spelling -ency and the final unstressed sound /ənsi/, so they form a genuine sound-match group for that suffix. However, none fully rhymes with 'excellency' /ˈɛksələnsi/ because the stressed syllables differ: 'agency' and 'frequency' have /eɪ/ and /iː/, 'currency' has /ɜːr/, 'emergency' and 'consistency' stress later syllables, and even 'tendency', which begins with the same /ɛ/ vowel, is followed by /nd/ rather than /ks/.
