Pronunciation & Spelling
coordinate (verb) rhymes with subordinate: both have the stressed /ˈɔrdə/ + /neɪt/ sequence. The other -inate words (originate, terminate, contaminate, culminate) keep the final /neɪt/ but carry stress on a different syllable, so they look alike without rhyming. Beware insubordinate: it is spelled like -ordinate but pronounced /ˌɪnsəˈbɔrdənət/ with final /nət/, not /neɪt/.
