常与 go、act、run 等动词连用，表示行为或决定与某事物相违背。

on the contrary 是固定短语，其中的定冠词 the 不能省略；汉语没有冠词，学习者常常漏掉。补上 the 后短语才成立。
易错句子He is very diligent. On the contrary, his brother is lazy.正确表达He is very diligent. On the other hand, his brother is lazy.
on the contrary 用来否定或反驳对方刚说过的话，而不是把两件事并列起来作对比；这里只是提出另一种相反的情形，应该用 on the other hand。改后既保留了对比的意思，也符合 on the contrary 的用法。
