在“出席会议/参加活动”这一义项中，attend 直接带宾语，不加 to；attend to 表示“处理、照料”，加上 to 会改变意思，变成“处理会议事务”，不是“参加会议”。

attending 是动词的现在分词，指“出席、参加”这个动作，可以作谓语；attendance 是名词，指出席这一事实或出席人数，不能作谓语。说“他正在参加会议”要用 He is attending the meeting，不能说 He is attendance；要表达“出席人数很多”才用 attendance。

tending照料；倾向于

两者在“照料、处理”义上有重叠：attend to 较正式、偏书面，tend to 更常用于日常照看（tend to the sick）或表示“倾向于做某事”（tend to do）。表示“倾向于”时只能用 tend，不能用 attend；表示“出席会议”时只能用 attend。

intending打算；意图

读音接近（attending /əˈtendɪŋ/ 与 intending /ɪnˈtendɪŋ/），但搭配不同：intend 表示“打算做某事”，通常接 to do；attend 表示“出席、参加”，后面接活动或场所。所以“我打算参加婚礼”是 I intend to attend the wedding，不能说 I'm intending the wedding。
